Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Danna Johnson, parent development co-ordinator, Sure Start Brunswick, London

1 min read
What exactly do you do? My job is extremely broad, but my main responsibility is to get parents living in the area involved in Sure Start. I try to raise awareness about what Sure Start can offer parents and what they can contribute to it, so they are able to express their concerns and put forward ideas. We have funding to go towards any ideas or initiatives they have, like swimming lessons.

Describe a typical day? If you take a Wednesday, for example, in the morning I work with our Somali women's group. They have a sewing class and I go along and help look after the children and talk to them about any issues that concern them. I have a quick lunch and in the afternoon it's on to the Tiny Gym, which is basically gymnastics for babies held at our local leisure centre. I'm out and about all the time.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? There are 14 partners, including a child dietician, an oral health provider and a speech and language therapist. We also work with organisations like Bookstart and Slam - child mental health specialists.
