Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Fran Harrison, health development worker, Corby Sure Start

1 min read
What exactly do you do? My main involvement is to develop a teenage programme for young people in the community between the ages of 10 and 16 to help address the teenage pregnancy rate, which in Corby is high.

We've extended the project to two youth groups, an after-school drop-in centre, a funky weekly aerobic session for young people and a peer-support resource during the school holidays.

Describe a typical day. It usually involves quite a lot of meetings and networking outside the project with our partners in education, social services and health. I also work two evenings a week at the teenage pregnancy project.

What other agencies and who else within your own organisation do you work with? We have large team meetings weekly, and attend training programmes several times a quarter on a range of programmes including diversity, child protection and mental health. I also work with health visitors, midwives, teachers, social workers, people from pupil inclusion support, drug and alcohol abuse and Connexions.
