Work Wise: Jargon buster - Pals

Have you sat through an entire meeting and wondered what your colleagues were rambling on about? Use our handy jargon guide to find out what they mean.

Where you might hear it: From anyone who works in the healthcare sector.

What does it mean: Pals stands for Patient Advice and Liaison Services, which is the NHS service that provides information, advice and support to patients, families and their carers. Pals staff are an important part of every primary care trust (PCT) because they offer independent advice and can act as mediators between service users and PCT staff and managers. Pals staff are also important because they are able to provide PCTs with valuable feedback about service users' experiences.

How to use it: Find out how easy it is to speak to a member of Pals staff in your local PCT. You can track them down via the trust's website.
