Work Wise: Jargon Buster

Have you sat through an entire meeting and wondered what your colleagues are rambling on about? Use our handy jargon guide to find out what they mean.

ESRA

Where you might hear it: From anyone who works in education or local authority services.

What does it mean: ESRA stands for extended schools remodelling adviser. In every local authority an ESRA acts as the strategic head for extended services, although they work closely with directors of children's services and extended schools co-ordinators, among others. They ensure that local extended services are helping to meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes for children. They do this by working with local schools, children's centres and other service providers to ensure that children get the best possible out-of-school provision.

How to use it: Contact your local authority and chat to your ESRA. Read up on extended services on either ContinYou's or 4Children's website.
