Signposting
Where you might hear it: In almost any service working with children and young people
What does it mean? Signposting describes the process of pointing people in the right direction of other services or information. Some services, such as children's centres, have a formal duty to signpost users to other organisations that can offer them support. This could include directing parents towards benefits advice or learning and training opportunities. Signposting can also include providing leaflets or posters, chatting to people about their needs or directing someone to a phone number or website.
How to use it: Make sure your organisation is equipped to signpost users to other services and knows which other organisations in the local area can offer support.
