Local infrastructure organisation
Where you might hear it: When talking to local voluntary sector staff.
What does it mean: Local infrastructure organisations (LIOs) help the third sector by supporting voluntary organisations and community groups that provide services with local public bodies.
There are LIOs in every area. They support voluntary organisations by providing services and speaking out nationally on behalf of the local third sector. An LIO will monitor the services provided by the third sector in its area and identify gaps such as training or access to funding and legal advice. It will then work with new groups to fill these gaps and ensure existing groups are equipped to tailor their services to changing needs.
