Wales: Commissioner calls for young people's minister

Discussions are still taking place on possible coalitions for government of the assembly.

With cabinet and ministerial posts yet to be decided, the office of the Children's Commissioner for Wales is calling for changes to ensure young people are at the heart of Welsh government.

As well as a dedicated minister for young people, it is calling for the creation of a children and young people's scrutiny committee. This would sit within the Government and examine any issue affecting children and young people in Wales.

Maria Battle, acting children's commissioner, said: "I shall be writing to the First Minister and relevant assembly ministers to call for a minister for children with a cross-cutting portfolio and the resources to influence and monitor all services and policies affecting children and young people.
