The Welsh Affairs Committee questioned Hodge as part of its follow-up inquiry into the powers of the children's commissioner for Wales in the light of the children bill. She said: "If you look at Clarke's work, he has 500 live cases and has only produced one report, Telling Concerns. I think that is a bit disappointing."
In a statement responding to Hodge's criticisms, Clarke said it was "very narrow and bureaucratic" to see policy and strategic influence solely in terms of the publication of reports. He has also produced two reviews of child poverty and mental health, and is working on three more.
