Toni Leigh Smith, 19, Bolton

I have been interested in film and performing arts for a long time, so when I saw Community Channel's Talent Studio on the timetable at Fairbridge, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally expand my skills.

During the course, I worked with seven other young people, a media trainer and a mentor from BBC Manchester.

We produced a short drama called Hope Street about how young people can use their creativity to express pent-up negative emotions. I contributed to writing the script, as well as taking one of the main acting roles.

Following the course, our film was shown on the Community Channel, which was a very proud moment for me and I felt I had achieved something amazing.

I now teach a dance and performing arts group for young people aged five to 19 and I have started a job as a teaching assistant.
