I've just spent three months with Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service as part of the Prince's Trust Team programme. It was the best 12 weeks of my life.

I am the proud father of a one-year-old boy named Josh and everything I did on the course, like abseiling off a cliff or crawling through dark tunnels, I did for him. He was on my mind all the time because I needed to grow up. I made out to everybody I was there for Josh, but I felt like a fake because I was on cannabis.

Being a father is really hard, especially when you're young. I want to be a firefighter, but I thought it was impossible and I should stick to 'realistic' jobs to provide for my family. But I met firefighters all over Leicester and they taught me nothing is out of reach. Now I'm cannabis-free and plan to go on to firefighter training. I am a better person and a better father.
