When I was 14, I realised I wanted to become a paramedic, but the closest I could get to being one then was to do a first-aid course.

I'm studying health and social care at college, but in my spare time I also volunteer as a first-aid trainer with the British Red Cross. I help young people and adults learn skills which could save lives. As well as teaching others about first aid, I've also pushed myself to keep learning and am currently studying to work as a member of the crew on a Red Cross ambulance.

I was surprised when I was awarded the national Humanitarian Citizen Award for Community Action. The award acknowledged my work with the Red Cross and an idea I had to provide first aid training to young parents in my area. The project will give these parents life-saving knowledge about how to help children in medical emergencies. After lots of planning I am really looking forward to starting the first one.
