What did they do? Three budding fashion designers showed off their skills as part of a fashion design competition for colleges and schools run by The University of Northampton.

Jackie Kalembe from Henley College, Coventry won the college students category. Eloise Kramer and Harriet King, pupils at Northampton High School for Girls, won first prizes in the categories for GCSE and A-level students.

What did it involve? The students had to create a garment for a special occasion, inspired by the concept of "eco-luxury". The clothes had to be sustainable and environmentally friendly. The young people were asked to consider keywords in their designs, including "growth", "confidence" and "roots". Jackie used second-hand materials in her design. She explains: "I wanted to use recycled materials and blend them with the techniques that I had learned to make something new and exciting."
