1 min read

Organisation: Hampshire County Council (HCC), Care Action Team (CAT)

Issue: Appropriate accommodation

The situation: CAT is a team of young people in or leaving care helping HCC fulfil its corporate parenting responsibility for looked- after young people. Together HCC and CAT have written the "Passport to Success", outlining 10 areas that need to be addressed. One issue was appropriate accommodation. Young people said that often accommodation was poor quality with little support. Young people in higher education raised specific issues around accommodation.

What children and young people said

"The accommodation in which we were placed was often inappropriate. Many of us were exposed to crime and drugs and we did not have access to quality washing and cooking facilities. There weren't enough staff around to support us when we needed it."
