Issue: Mobile phone theft

The situation Young people told their police liaison officer that they wanted an opportunity to get involved with working with the police. Youthwatch was set up within the school, operating in a similar way to Neighbourhood Watch. Young people wanted to tackle mobile phone theft. Youthwatch members were shown how to mark phones in UV and they then offered to mark students' phones during lunch breaks.

What children and young people said

"A message went round school and I went to a meeting. We set up lunchtime sessions over a couple of days and marked everyone's phones" ... "mobile phone theft has reduced in the school and local area" ... "the main thing is getting people involved - this is a good way to speak up."
