Organisation: Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Services (CAFCASS) - Leeds
Issue: Better facilities in family rooms, more information and less jargon
The situation: Children and young people are invited to complete a brief questionnaire at the conclusion of their meeting with the Family Court Adviser (FCA).
Some 92 responses were received in the first six months from April to September 2005. All staff were consulted about the children's suggestions.
What children and young people said: Young people asked for more resources, particularly for older teenagers, such as TV, videos and computer games for use while they are waiting for court decisions. One young person said FCAs should "give more information and not talk scientifically". Another suggested FCAs should ask young people "if they would like to see other people (family members) and why".
