Organisation: Norfolk Children's Services (NCS), South Norfolk District Council (SNDC) and Norfolk Police
Issue: Perceived stereotyping of young people and the police - young people as police trainers
The situation: At the request of members of South Norfolk Youth Action, police were invited to attend a meeting in order to challenge perceived stereotyping of young people by the police. Young people highlighted the fact that there was no direct youth involvement in the police training programme.
NCS youth workers recruited a group of young people from across the South Norfolk district for the day-long training of 13 police community support officers (PCSOs) from Norfolk Police. Role play, discussion and open evaluation got those involved to voice their thoughts and raise awareness of the role of PCSOs.
