The National Youth Agency: What's Changed

1 min read

Organisation: Discover - Stratford, London

Issue: Safe places to play

The situation:

The Story Garden was developed in collaboration with local school children and the Discovery Children's Forum; a standing forum for children aged four to 11, who feed into the development and operation of Discover. Children worked with the landscape designer to work out what kind of plants, equipment and play sculptures they wanted in their garden. The signs were designed by children as well as the equipment itself.

What children and young people said:

"The children's forum is good because we get to come and have our say".

"It feels very exciting to design your own playground, because then at the other end when other people have made it, you see your own designs and how good they make it". "The best bit was when we planted all these flowers. We had to dig the holes and then water them all in and we got really muddy".
