Sport: Youth Active plans camps as precursor to campaign

1 min read

The week-long summer camps, aimed at 150 to 200 eight-to 25-year-olds, will be followed by a Challenge Campaign to encourage local and national organisations to improve their sports provision for young people.

Janine Beacher, head of unit for Youth Active, said the organisation had enough funding for one camp and was hoping to receive Big Lottery Fund money for two more. "There will be workshops so some young people can learn coaching for half the week and deliver sports activities to other young people for the other half," she added.

Youth Active, formerly known as the Youth Sector Sports Development Unit, is funded with 750,000 for three years by Sport England and is led by the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services along with Clubs for Young People, UK Youth, 4Children and the YMCA.
