The programme, formerly known as Get Real, is a project financed by the Big Lottery Fund that aims to reach 21,000 young people during the next two years.
The programme is a radical departure for the everyday work of organisers the Youth Hostels Association. But in many ways the association is well placed to realise this ambitious scheme thanks to its existing network of accommodation around England and Wales, says Alan Hopley, lead director of Do It 4 Real.
Hopley is passionate about bringing the summer camp experience to the UK following his experience of living in France, where he saw that heavily subsidised summer camps are normal for French teenagers.
