- 63% of care leavers with the opportunity of sitting exams get at least one GCSE (47 per cent in England)
North Yorkshire is England's biggest county by area, stretching from the Pennines to Whitby. As such it has its own particular challenges not faced by neighbouring city authorities such as Leeds or Middlesbrough.
But the percentage of children in care is lower than the national average, and it is able to place more of its children with adoptive families and ensure that more of them achieve better results at GCSE level.
