- 15% of looked-after children were in care as a result of absent parents (7 per cent in England)
- 24% of looked-after children under 10 were placed for adoption (15 per cent in England)
- 23% of care leavers with opportunity of sitting exams gained at least one GCSE at grade A*-G or GNVQ (47 per cent in England)
Greenwich has a one-star rating for social services. The authority has had success in boosting the number of young children placed for adoption but has failed to meet other key targets set out in its children and young people's strategic plan, including getting 75 per cent of care leavers aged 19 to be in employment or training by March 2003.
