- 50% of looked-after children are under 10 (41 per cent in England)
- 7% of looked-after children are in children's homes or hostels (12 per cent in England)
- 30% of care leavers with the opportunity of sitting exams achieved at least one GCSE at A*-G or GNVQ (47 per cent in England)
Andrew Bunyan, service director for children and families at Leicester City Council, said one of the council's main aims was to keep looked-after children in "situations as close to a family setting as possible".
"We put a great weight on coming up with creative fostering options, such as kinship care," he added. The council is also using initiatives such as short-course GCSEs to improve the educational attainment of its looked-after children.
