It is run by the Community Development Foundation on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.
A first round ran in 2005 and this second round opened in August 2006.
What will it support? There are two strands - one is about building the capacity of faith-based groups, and the other is funding inter-faith activities.
In this second round the focus for both strands will be on promoting a sense of shared and responsible citizenship, so projects are sought that promote tolerance and respect within and between faith communities. The kind of activity specified under capacity building includes training from a specialist organisation to help faith groups work more effectively with their young people, and support for young people to run joint activities that challenge extremism and prejudice and promote integration. Inter-faith activities might be about jointly addressing faith hate crime, sporting activities for young people, or young people organising discussions with their peers from different faith groups to talk about the issues they both face.
