The cathedral is hosting a Christmas market from 27 November to 20 December where more than 90 chalet-style stalls will be present. An ice-rink will also be set up for those who want to try something more energetic than shopping.
Located next to the cathedral is Wolvesey Castle, an important residence of the wealthy and powerful Bishops of Winchester since Anglo-Saxon times. Much of the surviving ruins of the castle date back to the 12th century.
The surrounding area offers plenty for youth groups to do, including following in the footsteps of the poet Keats. The local tourism office is offering free maps where visitors can take in the sights that inspired the poet's Ode To Autumn.
