Opinion: If I were in charge of The education system - SapphireMason-Brown, 17, north London

1 min read
If I were in charge of the education system I would attempt to make life easier for people with visible differences - for example, people who have scars, birthmarks, skin conditions, cleft lip and palate etc.

Teachers can often make the assumption that visible differences equal aninability to function on the same level as other children but this isnot always the case.

When such things happen children may end up actually questioning theirown ability. This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy that I would liketo attempt to reduce by making teachers aware that children with visibledifferences know their own abilities and should be able to use these ifthey want to.

Teachers making assumptions could simply result in people having lessrespect for the teacher. If I were in charge of the education system Iwould also do some research to find out whether the system is workingfor children.
