Opinion: If I were in charge of The Government - Emily Tremlett,17, West Sussex

1 min read
As a 17-year-old, I'm currently not able to vote, but if I were in charge of the Government, things would change. I believe asylum seekers who want refuge should offer the country a skill or trade before being allowed entry to the country. This would, in theory, lower the unemployment rate and increase skills provision within the UK.

Secondly, I would want our troops in Iraq to be pulled out. At thebeginning of the war I thought it was beneficial for everyone, but nowit is clear that the Iraqis don't want help as they would have acceptedit by now and stopped the suicide bombings.

Finally, I believe if the Government stopped ploughing taxpayers' moneyinto the war and instead put more money into our hospitals, our NHSwouldn't be in such a predicament. The news makes it apparent that theNHS is in crisis, yet we hear nothing of what the Government is doing tohelp.

Some people argue the budget for the NHS is not satisfactory and it istherefore up to the Government. However, can we complain as our ownsociety decided together who runs our country. Is it actually ourfault?
