Opinion: If I were in charge of local democracy - Jonathan Jones,17, Rhyl

1 min read
If I was in charge of Denbighshire County Council, the first thing I would do would be to lobby vigorously for a decent level of funding for the county and then for the local schools and youth centres.

For example, we have a brand new youth centre here in Rhyl that is notallowed to open every day of the week because there is no funding to paystaff.

Some schools in Denbighshire are badly in need of refurbishment and Iwould allocate money to help them build new science labs and technologystudios. The county offices were rebuilt just over three years ago andit would be lovely if the pupils and the staff in Denbighshire's schoolscould enjoy the same standard of working conditions.

Litter would be another priority for me; people everywhere seem to justdrop litter without a care for the mess they make. Funding an educationand enforcement programme would be a high priority.
