Opinion: If I were in charge of ... Respect for young people -Freddy Williams, 15, Bristol

1 min read
I think the Government needs to show more respect for young people and stop treating us all like criminals. There are too many stereotypes. For example, if a young person wears a hoodie, then they are automatically classed as being in a gang. It's wrong to assume such things about people.

Police officers should spend some more time talking to children to makesure they're not troublemakers, instead of just thinking the worst.Often they don't check and it can be quite intimidating to children. Iwore a hoodie outside a shop once and ended up getting moved along, itwas really unfair.

If adults want respect from young people, then they need to starttreating us with some respect too. Of course, some children can bereally mouthy and abusive to others, but we are not all like that. Ifsomeone does act in a threatening manner, then it's only right that theyare punished for it.

Political correctness just seems to have gone a bit mad. It's gettingout of control. I suppose it's a shame really that the actions of a fewpeople can affect a whole generation.
