I would make sure staff are properly trained, keep people safe and runpositive activities so that young people will be engaged. Sportyactivities, like cricket and football, are the most popular, especiallywith the younger ones. And arts and crafts are popular too.
In Gateshead the problem is getting people into the club and finding theright activities, so you should organise open days and invite youngpeople.
I have been a youth club member for as long as I can remember. I used togo with my grandma who was a Scout leader and youth club leader. Ivolunteered with groups through most of my teenage years in my sparetime and I now work with Gateshead Council in the youth and communitylearning service. I suppose I'm following in grandma's footsteps. Youngpeople need to be working with the council and putting forward ideasmore. At the moment the council is very adult-led, but I think thatyoung people should have a say.
