Narrowing the gap: the inspection of children's services, published yesterday, reviews 102 annual performance assessments (APAs) and the first 37 Joint Area Reviews (JARs) undertaken during 2005-06.
The Audit Commission last week published draft proposals on the Comprehensive Area Assessment inspection, which was put forward in the local government white paper. The assessment will replace JARs and APAs, and is set to be "area-based, risk-focused, and more forward-looking".
An Ofsted spokeswoman said: "It is proposed that youth work will feature within the risk assessment and could be considered to warrant a triggered inspection where outcomes are poor and there is a high risk that performance will not improve."
