NCB Now: Youth board to advise the Government

1 min read
NCB and the British Youth Council (BYC) have recruited 25 young people, aged eight to 18, for a Children and Youth Board which will advise the Department for Education and Skills on issues affecting their age group.

The board, originally set up in 2004, aims to involve young people in Government decision-making. NCB and BYC have recently been appointed to oversee the running of its second year.

The young people, who will be supported to take an active role, recently took part in their first residential weekend. Held in London, the weekend provided the opportunity for the group to learn about how Government works and meet up with fellow board members.

During the weekend the board also discussed the issues that they would like to focus on over the year, these included the behaviour of children and young people, the forthcoming youth green paper and improving youth participation in Europe.
