Members of the Children and Youth Board, which is being run by the British Youth Council and National Children's Bureau, will have their first residential weekend in June.
The organisations are looking for children and young people aged eight to 18. There will be a minimum of two young people from each government office region in England, plus three from Scotland, two from Wales and two from Northern Ireland.
If children are not originally selected they will still be able to contribute to the board's work when it seeks the views of young people throughout the UK later in the year.
