The 25 young people on the Department for Education and Skills' Children and Youth Board include six from ethnic minority groups, similar to the 20 per cent of ethnic minority members in the youth parliament.
The board consists of 19 young people from across England and six representatives from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The majority are between 14- and 16-years-old, with five over 16 and four aged between 11 and 14. Included in its membership are three looked-after people.
Members will be taking part in their second residential later this month.
They will help with the youth green paper consultation next month.
The UK Youth Parliament's demographic make-up was criticised in a review this year for being insufficiently representative (YPN, 16-22 June, p4).
