Participation: New managers for children's board

The National Children's Bureau and the British Youth Council are taking over the running of the Department for Education and Skills' Children and Youth Board, the body that involves young people in government decision-making.

The board, which had been run by media agency Children's Express, played a key role in the recruitment of Professor Al Aynsley-Green as the children's commissioner for England.

Janine Shaw, joint project manager for the board at NCB, said the charity planned to involve Children's Express through one of the board's expert advice groups. "Hopefully we will be drawing on lots of children's charities in a more formal coalition."

The move comes as Children's Express announced the involvement of children and young people in recruiting the children's commissioner had so impressed the Government that it will be involving young people in recruitment of other senior posts.
