My life: Alice Rowland, Year 10, Abbey Grange High School, Leeds

I am a member of my school council, which has a really positive impact on my school. In the past year we have achieved a lot and I really feel like I'm listened to and that our views are heard.

We have a clear structure and meet regularly. The meetings are run by us with a teacher supervising but in no way influencing what we discuss.

In the past six months, we have built bike sheds to encourage students to ride to school as part of the Be Healthy scheme and brought new food into the canteen that is enjoyable and meets the Healthy Schools guidelines.

We also interviewed candidates for teaching posts. We formed a panel, asked questions and then fed back to the governors and head teacher.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of my school council over the past three years and look forward to continuing our work.
