My life: Letrishka Anthony, 16, Islington

The day I found out I was going to India, with 13 other lucky debaters from my school, I was ecstatic, but also in major doubt. I just couldn't believe it; in fact I only started believing it when we arrived in Dubai, for our connecting flight to Cochin.

From the beautiful students we taught in Campion School, to the great intelligence we debated with in Gregorian School, from the busy city of films, festivals and elephants, to the calm demeanour of Varkala seaside and the prestigious Backwaters, India provided an engrossing range of activities for us all.

If you asked for one particular highlight, I would say that even the day spent sitting in a cramped and stuffy train was one, as I truly adored every second of it. India was an exceptional treasure, which will stick with me; it has taught me so much about myself, societies and the developing world around me.
