I decided that it would be a good idea to do the Mend (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition ... Do it!) programme when I turned 11. I have always been on the heavy side, but I seemed to be gaining more weight, which really worried me and my parents. I was very unhappy.

We heard about the Mend programme in our local newspaper and my mum and I decided to go along.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Each session includes a one-hour interactive workshop for children and parents, and a one-hour fun physical activity session for the young people while the parents have an adult discussion. We had so much fun, while getting fit and learning about the food we eat.

I feel so much happier and healthier now. I am able to buy nice clothes and feel confident.

I think there should be more Mend programmes, so all young people can get the support they need to get fit and healthy.
