Being adopted has its ups and downs. What I like about being adopted is you can have a new family and you can see how their lifestyle fits to yours, which is quite fascinating. The bad thing is that some people don't know how to take it and treat you differently.

Also, if some of your birth family don't know where you live and they want to, you have to be extra careful about the moves you make on the internet and it can really be a pain. My adopted mum is really nice. She is kind, friendly and funny, well she thinks she is! My mum and I have our ups and downs too, but we always get through it as a little family. Sometimes she is a bit over-protective, which is annoying, but I see why she does it because she cares about my safety and loves me.

Jade is one of the adopted children featured in the book The Colours In Me, published by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering.
