Performance Helping care leavers find work experience and employment

Thanks to Islington Council's Career Start scheme more than 146 care leavers have been given access to employment opportunities, including jobs ranging from childcare to bricklaying.

Career Start, which has been running since October 2005, works with different departments within the authority, along with the council's contractors and local businesses to identify potential positions for young people leaving care.

Care leavers are also given help to complete applications and prepare for interviews, as well as being taken on trips to organisations such as the BBC World Service Trust to get an insight into different working environments.
