While the bleak economic outlook has added to the pressure on training and employment opportunities, Tameside is making strides in ensuring young care leavers have a range of opportunities to stop them from becoming Neet.

Performance: The percentage of former care leavers aged 19 who were in education, employment or training.

2005 Tameside 37.5% England average 59.1%

2006 Tameside 43.8% England average 63.4%

2007 Tameside 60% England average 63%

2008 Tameside 68.2% England average 64.9%

 

Latest government figures show a rise in the proportion of 16- to 18-year-olds not in education employment or training (Neet) between 2007 and 2008. A recent Local Government Association report warns that more than one million young people will be Neet by the end of the summer.

While the bleak economic outlook has added to the pressure on training and employment opportunities, Tameside is making strides in ensuring young care leavers have a range of opportunities to stop them from becoming Neet.
