Bury Metropolitan Borough Council has made important strides in improving outcomes for looked-after children.

2005 Bury 70.6% England average 59.1%

2006 Bury 76.9% England average 63.4%

2007 Bury 81% England average 63%

2008 Bury 70.8% England average 64.9%

Bury Metropolitan Borough Council has made important strides in improving outcomes for looked-after children.

In 2004, the local authority was seeing only 31.8 per cent of its care leavers going on to education, employment or training. But in partnership with the charity Action for Children, which runs the area's leaving care team, this figure increased to 70.8 per cent last year. Although the council did experience a dip from 2007, this is attributed to the small number of care leavers in the authority.
