Wakefield in a partnership with charity Barnardo's, has managed to drive up the percentage of care leavers in edcuation, employment and training.

2005 Wakefield 55.3% England average 59.1%

2006 Wakefield 55.6% England average 63.4%

2007 Wakefield 58.3% England average 63%

2008 Wakefield 71.8% England average 64.9%

In 2004, just over half of care leavers in Wakefield were in education, employment or training at the age of 19.

Having recognised the need to improve, the local authority, in a partnership with charity Barnardo's, has managed to drive up this figure, reaching 71.8 per cent by 31 March 2008.
