The London borough of Lambeth saw a sharp rise in the numbers of its care leavers moving on to training, education or employment, which peaked in 2006 but have since fallen back.

2004 Lambeth 46.3% England average 55.4%

2005 Lambeth 50.5% England average 59.1%

2006 Lambeth 68.3% England average 63.4%

2007 Lambeth 53.8% England average 63%

2008 Lambeth 60.8% England average 64.9%

 

The London borough of Lambeth saw a sharp rise in the numbers of its care leavers moving on to training, education or employment, which peaked in 2006 but have since fallen back.

However, in the past 10 months it has stepped up its efforts, creating more opportunities within the council through its Steps 2 Success Programme.

The finance, IT services and youth offending teams, among others, have opened up their departments to allow care leavers the chance to get a paid work placement.
