46.9% of babies breastfed by six to eight weeks in 2004 (36 per cent in Scotland)

98% of babies completed course in MMR at 24 months from January to March 2005 (96.4 per cent in Scotland)

66.2 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 16 to 19 in 2002/03 (68.3 in Scotland)

8.9 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 13 to 15 in 2002/03 (7.4 in Scotland)

Rebecca Walton, locum consultant in public health for NHS Lothian, said: "Over the last few years the breastfeeding rate in Lothian has increased but we are not complacent. NHS Lothian has worked closely with the City of Edinburgh Council Sure Start scheme to employ an infant feeding advisor to develop a peer-support programme to encourage new mothers in Pilton and Burdiehouse/ Gracemount areas within Edinburgh where breastfeeding rates have been low."
