Dental and oral health in Scotland is poor. A dental survey of five-year-old children in 1999/2000 showed that although Grampian was placed third out of 15 Scottish health boards, it still lay in the bottom third of all health authorities in the UK.
Grampian has a very low dentist to population ratio. This means that there is a very heavy demand on primary care dental services.
