Merthyr Tydfil has the highest rate of teenage conceptions in Wales.
This amounts to 52 conceptions a year for girls aged 13 to 15 years, and approximately 240 conceptions for girls aged under 18. It also has the highest level of unemployment in the UK, at 28.2 per cent. A multi-agency sexual health advisory team has been established and has developed a strategy and action plan that focuses on providing sexual health support and promoting programmes within school.
