55.5 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15-17 in 2003 (42.1 in England)

11.2% of babies born in 2002 weighed under 2,500g (7.7 per cent across England and Wales)

8.5 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in 2002 (5.2 in England and Wales)

Jill Beaumont, associate director for clinical services (children), said: "Oldham Primary Care Trust is part of a teenage pregnancy preventative services action group, which has developed a number of activities including condom distribution, awareness-raising among frontline staff involved with children and a special roadshow at local sixth forms. The group has also developed a comprehensive sexual relationships education package."
