Youth minister Beverley Hughes told Connexions chief executives last week that the guidance will set out what the Government perceives to be the role and remit of Connexions within integrated youth support services, and how children's trusts can make the most of the expertise of the service.
Hughes' words were viewed as encouraging by partnership representatives.
Steve Hoy, chief executive of Connexions Cheshire and Warrington, said: "There is a realisation that the Government needs to do more to protect the services that are there." Hughes highlighted the achievements that Connexions had made in reducing the number of young people not in education, employment or training and emphasised the role the service had to play in the 14 to 19 agenda.
