Connexions: Children's trusts set to control finances

The changes, due to come into force in three years' time, could mean local authority-led children's trusts choosing which services to commission from Connexions, leading to a wide variation in Connexions activity across England.

It is not yet clear whether or not part of the money given to trusts will be ring-fenced for Connexions. Schools could commission careers guidance either singly or in groups, although they could choose not to commission anything if they so wished. Such a move would be opposed by organisations including the Institute of Career Guidance, which has been pushing for a universal offer of careers education and guidance.
