Youth Green Paper: Children's trusts to fill Connexions role

Trusts will receive funding for targeted youth support, for which they will have responsibility for commissioning. A single point of contact will be provided though a lead professional.

There could be scope for Connexions personal advisers to perform this role and the Government says it would like to see trusts preserving successful Connexions partnerships.

Carolyn Caldwell, executive director of the National Association of Connexions Partnerships, hopes this could mean "business as usual" for many partnerships, but warns of the risk of inconsistency.

"Government targets, specifically the one to further reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training by 2010, must not be put at risk," she said.
